Recording Services

Are you after a chamber music recording engineer and/or producer who understands the intricacies of musical, tonal, and interpersonal judgement? Look no further!

I bring a unique perspective, as a performer who has been mentored in recording by one of the UK’s most experienced engineers. I have honed my skills both in the studio and on the concert stage, and developed a keen ear for ‘what works’ on record while always remaining sensitive to the musicians’ priorities. My experience as a player allows me to approach the recording process with an understanding of how to help people to play at their best. I pride myself on my professionalism and attention to detail: your project will always receive the attention and commitment it deserves.

Edit & Mix

Seamless editing and detailed
sound adjustments.

I am happy to see a recording project through from start to finish, from creative discussions through sessions, mix, edit and so on. I can also focus on something more specific, and have often edited, mixed or troubleshooting tracks that have already been recorded.

Much like playing, recording depends on aural sensitiviy, clear intentions, good communication, and technical understanding. Most performers have been in a situation where a tiny miscommunication has had a negative result on how your playing sounds. You're usually in safe hands in large studios, of course. But in other situations - for instane, when budgets and timescales are tight and you don’t know the engineers - results are not always aligned with expecations.

Shared priorities and mutual trust is a great foundation for making effective recordings - and for it to be a creative and liberating experience. That's what I'm always aiming for.

I got involved with recording because I thought if I knew a bit more about the technical side of the process it would make me more comfortable, and so play better. And it's true: using microphones yourself makes playing for them a much less scary proposition. I now work with audio in a few ways: mixing and fixing, on location recording, livestreams, remote sessions, and so on. I specialise in chamber music, because it's what I know most about as a player.

In an ideal world recording is a genuinely collaborative process. If everyone understands what it's like to *make* the music, that can sometimes make it go more smoothly. I know I've found working with a sound engineer who shares a playing background can be a source of confidence!
