Phonograph Effect is a remote recording service that makes genuinely expressive string ensembles available to composers and other music creators.

It was founded in 2020 with violinist and viola player Kay Stephen. Kay is a fantastic musician with whom I’ve been lucky to play with in small ensembles for many years. We know each other’s playing extremely well, meaning we’re able to work together to record string ensembles of various sizes without being in the same room. We’ve also teamed up with the superb bass player Laurence Ungless to add even more depth to the larger groups.
